Mobile Number Portability rollout across the India will be done by 20th January 2011. Recently, Mobile Number Portability was officially launched in Haryana with start from Rohtak City. Now MNP is ready for official launch across all States of India, that is good news for all mobile subscribers.
Mobile Number Portability (MNP) enables user switch their existing mobile service provider to another one withoug having to change existing mobile number. Users usually have many complaints to their current cellular servise provide, now if they are not happy with current mobile service provider, currently they have to change mobile no. if they want to go with another operator, now after 20 January, users will able to change operator with the help of MNP they can keep their same old mobile no. and will able to change the service provider easily.
If you want to apply for Mobile number portability (MNP), you have to send an sms “PORT mobilenumber” from your phone to 1900. Your current cellular operator will reply sms with a Unique Porting Code (UPC). You have to use that code while filling of form of new cellular operator and submit all necessary identity proofs/ verification documents. The porting (MNP) process will be completed within 7 days. Users have to pay Rs. 19 for using MNP service.
Before switching to new mobile network operator, your cell number will be switched off for one hour. There is a limit to use MNP again, Users will have to use new company’s service for at least 50 days before they can shift again. While Users can shift from a GSM service to CDMA or vice versa. The MNP does not allows users to shift from one state to another.
